Austria is implementing new truck bans in July

This year the Austrian government has decided to once again implement summer traffic restrictions for trucks. These restrictions will be implemented every Saturday starting from July 2nd up until August 27th. However, unlike in the previous years these restrictions will start sooner – at 7AM – and will last until 3PM.

The Saturday truck bans will be implemented on A12 and A13 highways. As mentioned previously, the restrictions will take place from 7AM until 3PM – after 3PM the usual weekend restrictions and bans will be in place. Usual weekend restrictions are, for example, nighttime bans that apply from 10PM until 5AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Apart from the two highways, these restrictions will also be implemented on other 4 important roads:

  • Loferer Straße B 178, leading from Lofer to Wörgl,
  • Fernpassstraße B 179, leading from Nassereith to Biberwier,
  • Seefelder Straße B 177,
  • Achenseestraße B 181.

These restrictions will apply to trucks coming from or traveling to either Germany or Italy. However, some vehicles will be able to use exemptions. These restrictions will not be applicable to trucks carrying cattle for the purpose of slaughtering, postal deliveries, deliveries to petrol stations and airports, i.e.: to all loads that are urgent and cannot be postponed. The exemptions will also apply to drivers traveling back home or to their company’s headquarters, they will also apply to trucks without any load that are coming back to their company’s headquarters.
