Starting from December 23rd, Austria will be implementing a new driving ban which will be in force until April 1st, 2024. According to the new law, all drivers will be prohibited from trying to avoid traffic on the main roads by turning into local roads. This ban will be used as a tool to avoid congestion on smaller roads. The new ban will apply in the regions of Schwaz and Kufstein and in the town of Reutte which is located in the region of Tyrol.

The ban on using secondary roads will apply on Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., while in Kufstein and Reutte areas it will also be applied on Sundays and holidays, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

In the Schwaz region, this ban will apply on the following road sections:

  • Road L294 Bruckerstraße from KP 0.020 to KP 2.320 and from the beginning of Zillerstraße to Gst. No. 1940 road.
  • On the L7 Jenbacher Straße in the direction of Jenbach.
  • In the cities Strass, Schlitters, Fügen-Gagering, Fügen, Uderns, Hart, Bruck im Zillertal.

In the Kufstein region, this ban will apply on the following road sections:

  • After exiting the L209, on the Alte Erler Straße.
  • On the L 211 Unterinntalstraße in the direction of Kufstein.
  • On the L 211 Unterinntalstraße in the direction of Mariastein.
  • L 295 Buchberger Straße from 3km to Niederdorf.
  • B 171 road in the Northern direction.
  • On the Endach/Kufstein road towards the Kufstein hospital.
  • For those coming from the city of Eiberg and heading towards Kufstein from the Eibergstraße/Gemeindestraße road junction.

Traffic lights limiting the number of passing trucks are located in the following places:

  • B 171 Tiroler Straße, KP 1.44 for those coming from Germany.
  • B 172 Walchseestraße, 18km, for those coming from Walchsee and heading towards Niederndorf.
  • B 172 Walchseestraße, 21.95km, for those coming from Germany and going towards Niederndorf.
  • B 173 Eibergstraße, 6.6 km towards Kufstein.

In the Reutte area, this ban will apply on the following road sections:

  • On the L 288 Pinswanger Straße from the junction with the L 396 Weißhausstraße towards Pinswang and Pflach.
  • L 69 Reuttener Straße, KP 9.750, for those heading towards Pflach.
  • On the L 288–0–A1 road to Pflach from the junction with the B 179 Fernpassstraße road.
