Germany opens news rest areas in Lower Saxony

In the past two weeks, Germany has opened two new rest areas for truck drivers. Both of the parks are located in Lower Saxony. The newly opened areas not only help truck drivers to find a safe spot to spend their rest periods at but are also a move towards eliminating the shortage of secure parking spaces for trucks that Europe is currently dealing with.

The first rest area is located in the south of Lüneburg Heath. The park was opened last week and can be accessed via the A7 motorway. The rest area can fit 20 cars and approx. 100 trucks, yet its layout is different from others.

The trucks are parked close to one another in several rows. The rest area uses a system which ensures that each truck is parked according to its planned departure time. This allows to maximize the number of lorries that can be parked in the territory.

The rest area is secured by a fence and includes video camera surveillance, allowing to ensure the safety of the drivers. It allows drivers to access any services they might need during their time off. The area has a restaurant, a shop, a community room, and a large terrace on which drivers can spend their time. Wi-Fi access is also available in the lorry park. Simultaneously, it contains the necessary sanitary facilities, such as showers, washing, and dryer machines.

This huge 38,000m2 lorry park offers access to different services. The rest area includes 6 restaurants that focus on serving healthy meals as well as an outdoor gym. All of the spaces within the territory are very modern and contain an art installation as well as selfie box for those interested.
