A new state-of-the-art checkpoint for trucks will be built at the Brenner Pass in Vipiteno, Italy. Starting from next year, this new control point will allow the traffic police to quickly check the technical condition of passing trucks and understand whether the drivers are complying with the laws.
The new checkpoint on the A22 motorway in Vipiteno is expected to be fully operational by summer 2025. Here the traffic police will be able to check whether the heavy weight vehicles are complying with environmental requirements, whether their brakes are working properly and the weight of the goods transported does not exceed the permitted limits.
The checkpoint will use modern equipment such as infrared cameras. It will be possible to efficiently and quickly check if the tachographs are being used correctly by the drivers of the trucks and that they are not trying to alter the information recorded on them. Since 2022, a similar checkpoint has also been in place on the A10 motorway in Kuchl, Austria.
It is important to note that new drones were also tested on the A22 this summer, allowing for live monitoring of the road, the traffic, and the condition of the motorway’s infrastructure. This helps to ensure the safety of drivers and to quickly inform the emergency services in case of accidents.
