Due to new roadwork projects, traffic restrictions and road bans were introduced in Belgium and Switzerland this month. As a result of these changes, important roads, such as the Gotthard Tunnel, will be closed. The ongoing European football championships have also resulted in traffic restrictions in Germany. In this article, we provide all of the necessary information about these changes.

Important changes in Belgium

The Cointe tunnel, located on the E40-E25 motorway, is about to undergo a series of roadworks. Starting from June 30th, 10 p.m., up until August 26th, 6 a.m., the motorway will be closed in the territory between the 38th and 35th junctions. From June 14th, 10 p.m., until August 26th, 6 a.m., the 37th junction will also be closed in the direction of Brussels. From August 5th to the 9th and from August 11th to the 14th, this motorway will be closed in the direction of Luxembourg starting from 10 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m.

The Liefkenshoek tunnel is going to be closed from June 27th until the 28th due to reconstruction works. The closures will start at 9 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. of the following day. Starting from July 15th, reconstruction works will also start in the Beveren tunnel, resulting in the tunnel being closed for a year. 

Closure of the Gotthard tunnel

The Gotthard tunnel, located in Switzerland, is going to be closed on some days in June due to maintenance and cleaning works. The tunnel will be closed from June 17th to the 21st and from June 24th to the 28th starting from 8 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m. of the next day. The traffic restrictions for heavy weight vehicles which exceed 3.5t will start 30 minutes earlier, at 7.30 p.m.

Truck bans in Koln 

Due to the ongoing European football championships, traffic restrictions will be implemented in the city of Koln and will last until July 14th. Trucks that weigh more than 7.5t will be banned from entering the city centre between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 a.m. Exceptions apply to vehicles delivering goods to local businesses.
