̌̌̌Road bans in Europe in January 2025

As 2024 draws to a close, it is important to take note of the traffic restriction changes due to take place in Europe. Public holidays in some countries will result in additional traffic restrictions being implemented. In this article, we provide a list of the dates on which traffic restrictions for trucks will apply in Europe.

On all working days (January 2-3, 6-10, 13-17, 20-24 and 27-31)

Road bans will apply in Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. They will apply from midnight to 5am and from 10pm to midnight.

On 2 January, additional restrictions will apply in Romania from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and in Slovenia from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On 3 January, additional restrictions will apply in Croatia from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., in Greece from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and in Slovenia from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

On 6 January, due to the Three Kings’ Day, additional restrictions will apply in Austria and Liechtenstein throughout the whole day, in Croatia from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., in Greece from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., in Romania from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., in Slovakia from midnight to 10 p.m. and in Italy from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On 7 January, additional restrictions will apply in Romania from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On 17 and 31 January, additional traffic restrictions will apply in Austria from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

On 23 January, additional restrictions will apply in Romania from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On 24 January, additional restrictions will apply in Austria from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and in Romania from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Monday, 1 January

Due to the New Year's Day, additional restrictions will apply in the following countries:

  • In Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland throughout the whole day.

  • In the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  • In Greece from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • In Italy from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. 

  • In Croatia from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. 

  • In Poland and Slovenia from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Luxembourg from midnight to 9:45 p.m.

  • In France, Slovakia, Germany and Hungary from midnight to 10 p.m.

  • In Romania from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturdays (4, 11, 18 and 25 January)

Road bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In Austria from midnight to 5 a.m. and from 10 p.m. to midnight on certain roads. On 4 and 11 January, additional restrictions will also apply from 7 a.m. to midnight. On 17 and 25 January, additional restrictions will be in place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • In Luxembourg, from 9:30 p.m. to midnight for those travelling towards to France and from 11:30 p.m. to midnight for those travelling towards Germany. 

  • In Liechtenstein and Switzerland from midnight to 5 a.m. and from 10 p.m. to midnight.  

  • In France and Hungary from 10 p.m. to midnight.

On 4 January, additional restrictions will apply in Greece from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On Sundays (5, 12, 19 and 26 January)

Road bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland throughout the whole day.

  • In France, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany from midnight to 10 p.m.

  • In the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

  • In Italy from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Slovenia from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Luxembourg from midnight to 9:45 p.m. On 26 January the restrictions will apply throughout the whole day.

On 5 January, additional restrictions will apply in Croatia from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and in Romania from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
