Sweden is implementing stricter penalties for those who break the EU Mobility Package rules

Sweden has announced that it will be implementing new rules meant to enforce the EU Mobility Package in a stricter way. Drivers who do not have the necessary documents or are breaking the given rules will be facing higer penalties and clamping of their vehicles. These changes are expected to come into for on August 1st, 2022.

The implementation of new rules and fines is meant to ensure that drivers and hauliers are abiding by the rules of the EU Mobility Package. One of the most important rules is paying drivers the minimal wage of the country in which they’re currently working. Foreign hauliers are hence obliged to provide necessary documents to the Swedish Work Environment Authority no later than the day when the drivers begin their work in Sweden. Law violations will be punished with the highest possible fines permitted by the EU for each violation category.

Some law violations will result in clamping of the truck’s wheels. Clamping will also be used in the cases where the driver does not pay the fine on time. Hence, before going to Sweden make sure that you have all of the necessary documents and that you’re abiding by the rules of the EU Mobility Package.
